Jessica is a talented voice coach and singer who has worked in music for the past 20 years. With her solid vocal training, extensive performance and teaching experience, and enthusiastic nature, Jessica teaches music and sings with expertise and joy.
A Berkeley native born into a professional music family, Jessica studied vocal and theatrical performance in Berkeley High's prestigious Music Department, and in the competitive UCLA Theater Program. Jessica has lived in Oakland for 14 years where she sings, teaches, and she serves on the vocal faculty of The Jazzschool in Berkeley.
She has a rich and varied background in performance. She has sung with the swing and funk band The Cool Jerks alongside long-time Santana vocalist, Tony Lyndsey, with the 60's review band Casino Royale, and with the Stevie Wonder tribute band, Wonderland (where she was described as a tour-de-force!), and has performed as a lead vocalist in Emerald Rain Production rock musicals. She fronts her own jazz and soul ensemble, Jessica Neighbor and the Hoods.
Jessica is also a gifted teacher. She taught music at Hillcrest Elementary School in Oakland and currently leads choirs and musical theater enrichment programs in East Bay public and private schools, including the popular “Glee!” inspired choir at The Jazzschool, and music in the redwoods at This Land is Your Land Outdoor Science Camp in Roberts Park. She teaches early childhood music at Ducks Nest Preschool in Oakland and her most recent addition is her own Rockin’ Robins music class, specifically designed for babies and toddlers.
Jessica is available for private singing lessons at her home music studio, "Skylark Studio", located in the Upper Grand Avenue District of Oakland, CA. For the past 12 years she has coached singers in vocal technique and for performance, and studied singing herself for over 10 years, including with Master Voice Teacher Jane Sharp. On Jessica's singing, Jane Sharp says, "At home in any style: vocally rich, musically gifted, dramatically talented, Jessica has it all.”
